Why Failure is Essential:
We all would like to live a life where we don’t fail at anything. It would be great if everything we do turned into success. However, building resilience can’t happen in a life that only contains success. You need failure to build resilience. So, why do resilience and failure go together?”
This is an emotional regulation, and it can be one of your goals to work on. Overcoming your emotional state one can experience the fullness of what life is all about but also know that you won’t be threatened with being too overwhelmed by the things you feel and go through. It is important to regulate your emotions. Be aware of situations, your emotional reactions, and the behavior of people around you.
Building Resilience
What does the word Resilience mean in terms of our everyday life? I went and looked up its meaning and came across this explanation: the capacity to withstand or to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness. Interesting!
It’s a skill you develop over time from the lessons and experiences you absorb as you grow up and face challenges.
Unfortunately, we can’t build resilience on success alone. It takes failure for us to build our inner strength and work out how to deal with failure. A life of unbroken success doesn’t test us if we are unprepared for what might come.
How to build resilience
When we build on our resilience we gain confidence that we will succeed, despite any setbacks that we experience. We then have the self-belief to take risks and we will understand that failure is just another step towards success. So our resilience is built when we face those failures. We also tend to build it when we accept that some things can’t be changed or we must face our unfinished business. Every time we overcome something challenging to us but where we ultimately prevail, we build resilience a little bit more. when it’s stronger, we have a greater ability to then withstand even greater challenges.
However, we are sometimes overwhelmed and momentarily defeated by our challenges. It can be hard for us; there is an opportunity for us to grow even greater resilience. These momentary defeats call on even greater reserves. So, when we do bounce back, we do with much greater inner strength.
Facing our Challenges
When facing resilience we tend to frequently use it interchangeably with adaptability and coping strategies. However, there are four main types of resilience that we must cultivate to support ourselves during challenging times. These include physical resilience, mental resilience, emotional resilience, and social resilience.
It is important to understand that we want to avoid challenges that are too great. Having too many challenges can make life impossible and one can get into a meltdown. However, by doing this, we ultimately deny ourselves the ability to greatly increase our resilience. And who knows – perhaps we might even be successful in meeting these larger challenges.
It is important to stay positive in our resilience growing process.
The seven pillars we should use in resilience to stay in that positive mindset:
- Acceptance. There are situations that we can’t change……
- Optimism. The most difficult situations and challenges often hold the greatest growth potential.
- Stop being a victim. Don’t beat yourself up….
- Solutions–oriented approach.
- Take responsibility.
- Social networks.
- Future planning.
I just love to end my blogs with a motivational Scripture from the Word of God, that brings truth to our daily challenges. In times of challenges, it can be helpful to draw strength from motivational sources such as scripture. Ending with a verse like Romains 12v2 – “Let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think” – reminds us of the power of resilience in transforming our mindset and overcoming obstacles in life’s journey.
